“Shelby came highly recommended from the best among the podcast community. I had no idea the ways people monetized podcasts until taking her first class and found it incredibly eye opening and helpful. Her webinar met every expectation. She was friendly and accessible. I would highly recommend taking it to anyone looking to do a podcast the right way the first time around.” - Jessica Houston, Founder Vitamin and Me

“Shelby’s class and coaching are the very best resources I have found for podcasting support and tools. There is NOTHING like it and what she offers out there.” – Anne Julian, Host Grey Matters Now Podcast

“Shelby’s class literally jump started my partner and I six months ago so the process works! Use us as the  poster children.” - Chris Kleusner, Beyond the Ocean Podcast

How the class works:

Session 1: Your Podcast Business Plan (2 hours 5 minutes)

Screen Shot 2020-11-16 at 3.28.55 PM.png

This is the longest session of the course. We go over your entire podcast business plan and strategy to set you up for success from the beginning. In this course, we define who your listeners and sponsors are, your show format, your cover art, your logo, your name, and how to get started. Feel free to break this section up into a few days. Be sure to download the course handouts below. And if you’ve already started a podcast, it’s still good to go through this whole section and reformat your business plan for your existing podcast. There’s a business checklist and plan to fill out and get started.

Session 2: Equipment, Production and Outsourcing Show Duties (50 minutes)

Screen Shot 2020-11-16 at 3.29.07 PM.png

In this section, we go over all the equipment you need to record an interview, and what you need to launch your show. We discuss the basic equipment setup, and how to capture great sound whether you are in person or recording remotely. We go over how to get your show from your recording equipment to a platform where people can actually listen to your show on a podcast player. We also discuss the differences between podcast hosting companies. Lastly we share how to outsource show duties so you don't have to do it all. There’s a  full Equipment and Resources List to download.

Session 3: Recording, Interviews and Show Production (37 minutes)

Screen Shot 2020-11-16 at 3.29.16 PM.png

In this section we get into the nitty gritty of recording your show, and all the pieces you will need to produce a podcast episode, including your intro, outro, sponsor ad reads, and more. We talk about actually interviewing guests, who make the best guests (and who makes terrible guests) and how to follow up with guests so that you maximize your reach. We also talk about systems for keeping up with production and how to make your own process easier. We also discuss how to make a trailer for your show, and what pieces of your podcast you need to actually launch your show.

Session 4: Monetization and How to Actually Make Money Podcasting (1 hour 40 minutes)

Screen Shot 2020-11-16 at 3.29.28 PM.png

This is where we get into all the ways you can monetize your show, from affiliate, to Patreon, custom sponsorship deals, crowdfunding, and more. We dive into the advantages and disadvantages of each depending on your show and format. We also talk about advertising, CPM models, how to pitch sponsors, measuring what matters and more. We also go over how to have a business mindset to treat your show like a business from the start so you can monetize it from day one. Lastly we talk about your show pitch. Just to note: we go over on this session into growth, as this is from a pre-recorded live class. There are a lot of questions about sponsorships that you may have as well so I wanted to include this. We go more into growth in the next session.

Session 5: Growth (37 minutes)

Screen Shot 2020-11-16 at 3.29.47 PM.png

What People Are Saying:

“Shelby has been a great resource helping me strategize for the launch of my new health and wellness blog. During our Zoom sessions together, we completed a business plan that I am in the process of executing. Her positive personality, honesty and entrepreneur mindset made her a joy to work with.  Because of her guidance and inspiration I have begun to build the career of my dreams and there is no doubt she can help you do the same!”

--- Abigail Scott, Owner and Marketing Strategist Abigail-Scott.com

“Shelby’s class it was a great primer into the world of podcasting and actually learning about one specific podcaster's success and how she got there was really helpful. I especially liked the HARD DATA--I think it's so important that it's there so folks aren't just given anecdotes etc....I also liked that you very clearly stated what it WASN'T--how to upload, how to use software-questions that can be answered by using Google.”

--- Professional Athlete, Mirna Valerio aka “The Mirnivator”

“I have been a huge fan of Shelby's and Wild Ideas Worth Living for a while!  When I saw that she was offering consulting services I called my co host, Nick Watts, and we both jumped at the chance! To be honest we were pretty nervous! We had launched a podcast as originally a fun side project/ spin-off of our company Occupation Wild, but as our audience grew we had no idea where to start with monetizing.   Shelby was so kind and informative, she really took the time to listen to our podcast and gave great feedback and practical advice on where to start when reaching out to potential sponsors and show partners.  She gave us a lot of confidence in what we were doing and with what we learned we actually landed our first show partner and are in the talks with a few other companies!”

--- Courtney Condy, Co-Founder Occupation Wild

Meet your instructor: Shelby stanger

  • I’ve monetized three podcasts and even sold a podcast to REI Co-Op. I still host it. Watch my journey here.

  •  I monetized that podcast from week one. I took an entrepreneurship class and treated my podcast like a business from the beginning.

  •  I made mistakes when I started and had unrealistic expectations of how much money I would make. I wish someone could have shown me tips that took me months/years to learn and explained the money part.

  • I paid to take a class when I first started. I found it immensely valuable.

  • Beyond money, podcasting has brought me a ton of JOY and Opportunities. I have made connections (both business and personal) I am incredibly grateful for and would not have made any other way.

  • I want you to be Successful. I love podcasting. I love hearing feedback from listeners. I love helping others launch shows and have helped dozens like you.

  • Audio stories can Change the World. I’ve seen the power of podcasting firsthand.
