This year has been full of some less than pleasant moments. Below are a few things that made my life brighter – from books that made me laugh out loud, to new activities I know will bring you joy. These are purchases and activities I’d make again, or give to my own family.

The thing that has brought me most joy, is going outside and spending time with my niece and nephews. Regarding purchases that have brought me joy, here’s my list:

  1. Vuori (Vuori.com/Shelby)  for Vitamin Joy listeners they are offering 20% off your first purchase and free shipping on any U.S. orders over $75 and free returns. Buy a pair of the joggers. You won’t go wrong.

  2. Organifi (Organifi.com/Shelby) - Enter code Shelby at checkout, you will get 15% off your order. Organifi offers organic superfood blend with no fillers, all vegan and less than 3 grams of sugar per serving. My favorite new product of theirs is the Harmony Blend which tastes like  hot chocolate. I also love the Green Juice and Gold Blends.

  3. AquaTru Water Filter (enter code Shelby for $150 off your order) - For an amazing at home portable reverse osmosis water filter system which Johnny and I love (because tap water is full of contaminants and bottled water is expensive and wasteful), enter code Shelby for $150 off your order. FOe Johnny and I this filter paid for itself after three months.

  4. Can’t Hurt Me: Master Your Mind and Defy The Odds by David Goggins. This is a fast, easy read that makes you feel like you can do anything.

  5. Dear Girls: Intimate Tales, Untold Secrets & Advice for Living Your Best Life by Ali Wong. This book is funny AF. I am a huge fan of laughing, and a huge Ali Wong fan. You have to have an inappropriate sense of humor to like this book.

  6. Mop Rides the Waves of Life by Jaimal Yogis. This is a kid’s book I’ve given to adults and kids because the message resonates profoundly with anyone. Jaimal is a meditation teacher, surfer, and seasoned writer who partnered with an awesome artist for this book that explains to kids and adults how feelings are like waves. Big bonus, the main character’s mom (not dad) is the surfer.

  7. Get Out of My Head: Inspiration for Overthinkers in an Anxious World by Meredith Arthur. Like Jaimal Yogis, Meredith was an original guest on Vitamin Joy and I LOVED this book. It’s beautiful, full of art and just made me feel calm and happy readying it.

  8. Pickleball - If ping pong and tennis had a baby, this it. This game is addicting, fun, highly social, and perfect for social distancing and so much fun. It can also be a great workout.

  9. BoxUnion Digital – How many times have you wanted to punch someone this year?! I can name a few times! My older sister’s famous Los Angeles -based boxing fitness workout has gone global and on-demand. You can try it out at home for free for 14 days and then enter code “vitamin joy” for a discount after that. There’s even 10-minute ab and booty workouts. Give the gift of fitness to someone. The best part, it’s way less expensive than a Peloton, and you don’t need any equipment beoynd your body.

  10. Keto, Sugar free dark chocolate with CBD by FX Chocolate– I am not a big CBD connoisseur, but FX Chocolate is a brand new company from Oregon who sponsored Vitamin Joy. They sent me a few boxes of these beautifully individually wrapped dark chocolate pieces and I fell in love. They have ones specific for boosting immunity, focusing or Zening out. Go to the website and enter code “vitaminjoy” for a discount.

  11. Kundalini Yoga with @Libberated. I used to make so much fun of yoga, especially kundalini yoga where you breathe like you are doing a pregnancy class. I’ve done a few classes that completely changed my mood, released energy and made room for creative space. You can sign up or gift someone classes (Though they are donation only) on Instagram.

  12. The Urban and the Mystic Crystals - Bringing wine to a party is cool. But crystals last forever and they are beautiful to look at . You can get handmade boxes engraved with someone’s name and each is locally sourced. My other sister is a co-owner of this company so I am biased but these are great gifts. Code “vitaminjoy” gets you a discount off your first order.

  13. 650 down REI jacket – I didn’t even think they made jackets this nice for under $100. A few of these colors are $50. They have them in Men’s and Women’s.

  14. Harry and David Pears – Every year, my partner’s dad sends us pears. They are delicious. You can’t return them and they are healthy. What could be better?!

  15. Banana Brittle from Urban Remedy– I just call this Healthy Crack. It’s so good, crunchy and it’s made from bananas. You will be addicted for sure, so be warned.

  16. Surf Lessons – The biggest joy this year is teaching my nephew and niece to surf. Teaching someone to surf changes their life. You can get a gift card (there’s even one with me duck diving) at Surf Diva.

  17. Addiction in the Family – This might go over weird as a holiday present, but my mom recently wrote this book and she’s finally doing a podcast with me. The gift of not being addicted to substances, the gift of life, might be the most important one you can give. As of today, it’s FREE on your Kindle.

  18. Sleep, a new Mattress – I got an Avocado Green Mattress this year (they sponsor Vitamin Joy) and it’s the most eco-friendly, comfy mattress I’ve owned. The store has free kombucha and cold-brew samples on tap so stop in if you see one on your shopping sprees. There is one in La Jolla.

  19. A Phone Call, Virtual Hug, Face time – Your presence is always the best present.

Special thanks to all of you for engaging with my podcasts and being a friend and listener.  Choosing the path of non-convention has never been easy, but it’s rewarding. I couldn’t do it without you all.

Sending you all hugs, health and a ton of love.
